Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Mobile Application

Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Mobile Application
Set to Debut November 18

Free app to provide maps, stats, cowboy profiles, schedules and much more

LAS VEGAS (November 18, 2010) – Las Vegas Events announced today that it has launched the new mobile application for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.  Rodeo fans will now be able to fully plan for the Wrangler NFR, which runs from Dec. 2 -11 at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The NFR Mobile Application is free and available on all platforms, including Blackberry, I-phone and Android devices.  Apple users can access at www.NFRapp.com/itunes.  For all others, simply go to www.NFRapp.com through your mobile web browser. For additional information on the NFR Mobile Application, please visit www.NFRexperience.com.

Wrangler NFR fans, whether in Las Vegas for the rodeo or simply following the action from home, will be able to download the application for free.  The NFR Mobile Application will feature maps, a comprehensive schedule of events for the rodeo and after-dark activities, photo galleries, live statistics and scores and additional content that will connect fans directly to the cowboys.

“This is the next evolution in the marketing of the world’s richest and most prestigious rodeo,” said LVE President Pat Christenson.  “For the two weeks surrounding the Wrangler NFR, there are so many ways that fans can engage in the action, including the live stats during each rodeo performance.  We invite NFR fans to download this free application and follow the NFR experience in their own way.”

During the 10 days of competition, the Wrangler NFR will again transform the look and feel of the “Entertainment Capital of the World.”  Each year, rodeo fans decked out in jeans, boots and hats fill hotels, casinos, restaurants, shopping malls and showrooms.  Hotel marquees will be splashed with the names of the brightest stars in country and western music.  In addition, the traditional Cowboy Christmas Gift Show held during the rodeo at the Las Vegas Convention Center is expected to attract tens of thousands of people in its own right.

In 2009, the event had a total event attendance of 172,361 over the 10 days of competition, resulting in a non-gaming economic impact of $51.6 million.  For more information about the Wrangler NFR, go to www.NFRexperience.com or www.prorodeo.com.

Speed Notes

Speed answers Sherry Rogers,

Sherry states, "My husband has a head horse, 11 yrs old, rodeoed on, seasoned. No matter where you haul him or in the practice pen he is reluctant to get in the corner sometimes. Kicks his butt out and does not want to set back up in the corner, he does not jam him in the corner. No other issues except not wanting to get in the corner sometimes."

Speed Notes

Speed Answers Chan Peters, Chan inquires about hand position when swinging and delivering the rope.

Sunday, August 8, 2010

Speed Answers Dale Davis

Dale asks if Speed still ropes the lead steer / burrow

Speed Notes

Shawn asks, "What is the main reason for wave offs?" Speed addressed this in an earlier edition and talks a little more about it in this Speed Note.

Speed Answers Brian Anderson

Brian asks, "We rope a majority of muleys here in Hawaii. I notice that even when reaching, you avoid roping front legs. Is this a function of width changing the angle of the rope's tail?"

Monday, August 2, 2010

Speed answers Chris Miller

Chris asks,
"How do you mentally and physically prepare for a one head rodeo vs. an average roping?"

Sunday, August 1, 2010

Speed answers Daphne Watson

Daphne asks,
"What would be a good way to finish my horse if i don't have the cattle?"

Speed answers Andy Thomas

Andy asks,
"When you practice, do you still have a watering trough upside down you walk back and forth on and rope the dummy?"

Speed answers Randy Carter

Randy states......
"It would be helpful if you video yourself from behind. Maybe someone could stand on top of the chute so we can see your loop angle and amount of right to left from behind."

Speed Answers Brad Martin

Brad asks..............
"Is it more common to try and scoop or trap on the first two legal hops on the corner, when trying to be fast?"

Speed Answers Mark Burt

Mark asked...............
All across the country I see people who show up to try and out perform one person or team. I would like to hear Speed address how to go out and give 100% on the steer you have and let the actions speak for themselves, instead of worrying about the other contestants.

July Pushing the Barrier by Fastback Ropes!

Pushing the Barrier by Speed Williams – July 2010

By Fastback Ropes

The Handle

Handling steers is one of the most important factors that allow headers to be successful. There are two common scenarios that prevent good handles. One is where the head horse drops his left shoulder and ducks, going left really hard. This causes the steer to jerk away from the heeler and his back end to be wild making him difficult to heel. The other scenario is when the head horse doesn’t respond to the bridle, or is weak, and doesn’t have control of the steer’s head. Here the steer seems to drift down the arena and the heeler ends up inside and has to throw over the steer’s hip where the right front leg is blocking entry of the heel loop.
There are many headers who reach and have acquired good range with their rope but still don’t realize how important it is to protect the heeler and keep the steer’s feet together. The header’s job is to get it on as fast as you can and to give their heeler the best throw possible.
Most jackpot headers who set up their runs and have a lot of steers caught behind them are very disciplined. They understand the importance of taking care of their heeler and setting up the run where the heeler can finish fast. There are a lot of headers who complain that their heelers can’t catch. If you consistently have heelers who can’t catch behind you, take a good look at you and your horse to see what’s causing it, especially if they’re catching for other headers.
The art of handling a steer is to get control of his head as smoothly as possible without breaking stride or changing speed. When I started heading I was taught to slow a steer down and hop him off and that is still widely taught today. The problem with this is once a heeler picks up the bridle reins, he loses all the momentum he had going down the arena. When heelers have to pull on the reins, they quit swinging their rope as fast and when the steer takes off again they have to start over from scratch. Heelers rope better when they can keep speed on their rope. Once they have to pull back a lot of things can happen: their swing goes to the right, it slows down, they lean forward, and all of these can make getting the heel rope under the steer more difficult.
You want to handle the steer smoothly in full stride and come back towards the heading box in a 10 to 15 degree angle. This angle allows for better entry of the heel loop. I learned this heading for Clay O’Brien Cooper.

Monday, July 19, 2010

Speed Answers Tom McDowell

I am not balanced and secure in the saddle when I leave the heading box. I have watched your videos and marvel at how little your body moves when you come out. Do you sit a little sideways or what is the secret?

Speed Answers Daniel Briand

Speed Williams answers the question, "I can t figure a way to reach as much as you do,why do I always need to make a step when I reach?

New site features for speedroping.com

New Site Features (6/27/2010)
While I am always uploading new training videos to my web site, I am also hard at work adding new features and functions to make the site better for everyone. Here are the latest additions:
  • Redesigned home page with easy access to answers to our most frequently asked questions.
  • Detailed information on the referral race, your way to get free hands on training with me!
  • Site comments feature added so that you can give your feedback on my site for the world to see. Just click on the link on the left navigation.
  • You can now easily edit your speedroping.com profile using the "Edit Profile" link on the top navigation whenever you are logged in.
Stay tuned for more site updates coming soon!

What is speedroping.com all about?
Upon realizing that I couldn’t possibly schedule all the schools I had requests for, I started thinking about how I could reach and help more people with their roping. As a professional roper, my video camera is used on a daily basis as a training tool and it occurred to me that I could help people using video to teach and demonstrate.

What makes this site so special?
As an 8 time World Champion I have had to learn many things the hard way. That not only takes a lot of time, but it can really end up costing a lot of money, too. I have created this site to make it easy for other ropers to learn from my experiences. I take great pride in the fact that this site is the first of its kind and I am adding new content every week. This incredible library will only continue to grow and gain new features all of the time.

On top of this, the subscription fees are an incredible bargain. Access to all of this great content for only $50 a month or $300 a year, you just cannot beat that value!

You don't have to look any further than the column on your right to get a feel for just how many of your competitors are taking advantage of this site already! Do you want to be left behind?

How Does It Work?
The process could not be easier! Just follow these easy steps:
  1. Become a member of the site for free! Just by becoming a member you get access to all of the free videos on my site.

  2. Decide why you are here. If you are here just to browse around and watch some of my runs, the free membership will be great for you. If you are looking to get trained and to become the best roper you can be you will want to become a paid subscriber. I offer two subscription models to make it convenient and affordable for everyone. The first is a yearly subscription that is the best overall value at only $300 a year. If that is a bit much for you to invest all at once you can choose the monthly subscription at $50 a month. Both models give you full access to all of the training materials on speedroping.com.

  3. Start watching the videos and improving your roping! New videos are posted every week so you will never run out of learning material.

Where can I watch? What systems are supported?
You can watch these training materials from any PC or Mac that supports Flash from anywhere you have an internet connection. This means you have access to this incredible training content from virtually any place at any time.

Please keep in mind that due to disputes between Apple and Adobe the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad do not support playing Flash movies and it is unclear when that will change. This is a limitation of those devices and NOT of speedroping.com.

Want a shot at free hands on training?
The person with the most referrals in a month will win a "Day School" at my house, or you can choose to have me review and provide feedback on up to 20 videos from your practice, jackpots, or rodeos runs. In addition I will lay out a program to work on your weaknesses so you have a better chance of winning. The counter resets every month giving you a new chance to win! That is a $1000.00 Value!

The person with the highest count of referrals at the end of the year will win their choice of either 2 days at their house with up to 10 friends or 5 days at my house with a partner of their choice. The counter resets every year giving you a new chance to win! That is a $5000.00 Value!

So how do you get credit for referrals? Follow these easy steps:
  1. Get Friends, Family and anyone you can to sign up as a paid subscriber at speedroping.com It doesn't matter if your a member or subscriber but your referral MUST become a paid subscriber!

  2. Locate your member ID# when you log into speedroping.com, its at the top of the home page, after the "Hello" and your name once you are logged in (it can also be seen on the "Edit Profile" screen)! Give this number to anyone you have refer and have them enter it when they sign up to become a subscriber.

  3. As your Friends and Family sign up, your entered! All you have to do is tell people about speedoping.com. This is my way of thanking everyone for their great support!

    Your Done!
    Its that easy!
